Accountability Court approves 9-day physical remand of Aleem Khan

Aleem Khan will again appear before the court on Feb 15

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 7th February, 2019) An Accountability Court in Lahore has approved nine-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan.

Aleem Khan has been handed over to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) till February 15.

The PTI leader was brought to the Accountability Court on Thursday amid tight security.

He has been shifted to NAB office from the court.

During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor said that Aleem Khan’s assets do not match his sources of income and demanded his physical remand.

Aleem Khan’s counsel however said that all of his client’s assets are legal.

The lawyer said that Aleem Khan had himself provided the details of his assets to NAB, adding that the questions have been submitted to NAB 12 times.

Being a public office holder is no crime, Aleem Khan is a businessman, he said.

The lawyer further said that Aleem Khan never misused his authority and never had any corruption allegation.

The NAB could never present any evidence against offshore companies.

Aleem Khan always appeared before the court whenever summoned, the lawyer said.

Aleem Khan himself said that he appeared before NAB four times since becoming a minister.

“I produced all the documents the bureau demanded. I should be held responsible if I had not cooperated,” he said.

PTI leader and senior Punjab minister Aleem Khan was taken into NAB custody on Wednesday.

The PTI leader was arrested as he had arrived in the NAB’s Lahore office for the fourth time on Wednesday. Aleem Khan was accused of possessing offshore companies and having assets beyond known sources of income.

Aleem Khan was reportedly unable to satisfy NAB regarding his source of income for his properties in Dubai and London. The NAB asked 18 questions from the senior minister but he could only respond to three of them.

He was then taken into custody from NAB premises.

He had last appeared before NAB on August 10, 2018.
