Moscow Afghan Talks' Participants Fail To Reach Agreement On Constitution Reform- Attendee

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th February, 2019) The participants of the intra-Afghan conference in Moscow have failed to reach an agreement on a constitutional reform, pushed by the Taliban, with an Afghan delegation defending the main law as legitimate, Afghan parliament member Fawzia Koofi said on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, a spokesman for the Taliban political office in Qatar, Suhail Shaheen, said that the movement had proposed modifying the Afghan constitution, so that it better reflected Islamic principles.

"The Taliban view is that the current constitution is not acceptable but the delegation from Afghanistan was stating that the constitution is a legitimate constitution ... This was an issue where there was no agreement, that's why you see in the resolution there was no mention about that because in the resolution we mentioned the issues where we have agreement," Koofi told reporters after the conference.

The intra-Afghan conference on the peace settlement in the country was held in Moscow on February 5-6. It was attended by a number of Afghan politicians, representatives of Afghan diaspora in different countries and a Taliban delegation. The Afghan government's delegation was absent from the talks.
