MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th February, 2019) Russia's Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov told Sputnik that he was sickened by some media claiming that Moscow has been isolated in the international scene.
"It irritates me when media claims that Russia is isolated in the modern world. Such a large and influential country cannot be isolated by anyone. Those who claim the opposite confuse the international community as a whole with its constituent part - the West, which by the way is by no means consistent in its attitude toward us," Ulyanov said.
Even though the deterioration in relations between Russia and the Western nations have brought its negative consequences, Moscow plays an important role in the international arena, including in the global organizations, according to the official.
"Contacts, including with Western partners, are maintained almost on a daily basis. In difficult and controversial situations, our readiness to assume the role of one of the leaders almost always is met with appreciation and enjoys the support of a wide range of countries," Ulyanov underlined.
In 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated over Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukraine conflict and Crimea's reunification with Russia. The Western nations have imposed sanctions on Russia. Moscow has denied the accusations and introduced a set of countermeasures in response to the West's restrictions.
