Work on the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile project is going in accordance with the schedule, Russia's Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin said Monday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th February, 2019) Work on the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile project is going in accordance with the schedule, Russia's Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin said Monday.

On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he decided to change the format of the meetings on the implementation of the state defense order and would personally control the way Russia's new hypersonic missile systems as well as Sarmat are being put on alert.

"As for Sarmat, I will also report that we are working as scheduled," Rogozin told Putin, as quoted by the Kremlin press service.

On March 1, Putin said that Russia had begun the active phase of testing Sarmat.

The Sarmat missile is designed to replace the aging but reliable Soviet-era R-36M2 Voevoda (SS-18 Satan) ICBM.
