Iraqi President, Prime Minister Receive Russia's Bogdanov, Call for Increased Cooperation

Iraqi President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi have received Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov at Salam Palace in Baghdad and expressed wish to expand cooperation between the two countries, the press offices of Salih and Abdul Mahdi said on Monday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th February, 2019) Iraqi President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi have received Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov at Salam Palace in Baghdad and expressed wish to expand cooperation between the two countries, the press offices of Salih and Abdul Mahdi said on Monday.

"The president stressed the need to consolidate regional and international efforts to ensure security and stability in the region, pointing at the role of Russia in combating terrorism," the press service said in a statement, adding that Salih also expressed wish to enhance the Russia-Iraq political, economic and investment cooperation.

At the same time, the press service of Abdul Mahdi said that the prime minister had praised the relationship between Moscow and Baghdad, as well as the role of Russia in supporting efforts to ensure security and stability in the region.

The prime minister's office added that during the meeting the sides discussed the next session of the Russia-Iraq intergovernmental commission as well as key regional issues.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said on January 30 that the sides were planning the hold the next commission meeting in Baghdad in March.
