France, Egypt Sign Several Agreements as Part of Macron's Visit to Cairo

France and Egypt signed on Monday a series of agreements in various sectors as part of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Cairo

CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th January, 2019) France and Egypt signed on Monday a series of agreements in various sectors as part of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Cairo.

The French leader arrived in Egypt on Sunday, accompanied by five ministers and dozens of leading French entrepreneurs. Following a visit to the famous Abu Simbel Temples in the south of the country, Macron headed for the country's capital, where he held talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah Sisi.

Cairo and Paris reached an agreement on the financing of the construction of a new subway line that will link Cairo International Airport and the city's northeastern Heliopolis district. Investments in the project, which is implemented by a French-Egyptian consortium, will amount to more than 300 million Euros (over $342 million).

The parties also agreed to cooperate in the training of public administration employees and signed a declaration of intent on the construction of a joint pharmacological enterprise.

A joint declaration providing for the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in culture, education and francophony was signed as well, along with an agreement to reorganize the French University in Cairo.
