Russian Human Rights Activist Lyudmila Alexeyeva To Be Buried In Washington, DC - Priest

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th January, 2019) Russian human rights activist Lyudmila Alexeyeva will be buried in Washington, DC next to her husband and son, Russian Orthodox priest Viktor Potapov told Sputnik.

"I was called by Mikhail, the son of Lyudmila Alexeyeva. He asked to do a grave site service for Lyudmila," Potapov said. "We scheduled it for April 6 at the Rock Creek cemetery."

Potapov said he knew Alexeyeva "a little bit" and noted that he buried her husband, Nicklay Wiliams, several years ago.

"When I worked for the Voice of America, she gave interviews to my colleagues," Potapov said.

Alexeyeva, who lived in the United States in 1977-1993, passed away on December 8, 2018 at the age of 91.

Lyudmila Alexeyeva was a prominent Soviet dissident and one of the founding members of the Moscow Helsinki Group, whose goal was to monitor the Soviet Union's compliance with the Helsinki Accords.
