US National Intelligence Director's Office To Release 4-Year Strategy On Tuesday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2019) The Office of the Director of National Intelligence will release the new US intelligence strategy for the next four years on Tuesday, the agency said in a statement.

"Today, (DNI) will release the 2019 National Intelligence Strategy (NIS), the guiding strategy for the US Intelligence Community over the next four years," the agency said via Twitter.

The report points out several global trends that have emerged as focal issues such as the weakening of international institutions, attacks on Western democracy and isolationist tendencies, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday citing a copy of the document it obtained before the official release.

Russia and China are highlighted as key concerns in the intelligence report, the report said.

"Russian efforts to increase its influence and authority are likely to continue and may conflict with US goals and priorities in multiple regions," the document said. "Chinese military modernization and continued pursuit of economic and territorial predominance in the Pacific region and beyond remain a concern, though opportunities exist to work with Beijing on issues of mutual concern."

China's modernization of its military and pursuit of economic and territorial predominance in the Pacific region continues to be a concern, the document added.

The new strategy also addresses the space domain, which was not listed in the 2014 report.

"No longer a solely US domain, the democratization of space poses significant challenges for the United States," the document said. "Russia and China will continue to pursue a full range of anti-satellite weapons as a means to reduce US military effectiveness and overall security."

The document also mentions climate change and resource scarcity, according to the report.
