BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st January, 2019) Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak expressed on Monday his hope for a constructive trilateral dialogue on gas transit with the European Commission and Ukraine.

"I hope for a constructive dialogue," Novak told reporters ahead of the consultations with European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic.

The trilateral talks will be held later on Monday. Novak and CEO of Russian energy giant Gazprom Alexey Miller will take part in the negotiations.

The European Union seeks firm guarantees from Russia and Ukraine that gas supplies to Europe will continue after their bilateral contract expires on December 31, 2019.

At the first round of trilateral talks in Berlin in July, Russia and Ukraine agreed to set up a working group to discuss long-term gas transit.
