Israeli Army Insists Strikes On Iran's Arms Depots, Syria's Air Defense Retaliatory

TEL AVIV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st January, 2019) Israeli military has conducted strikes last night at Iranian military facilities based in Syria in response to a missile strike at Golan Heights, and Syrian air defense facilities were bombed after they had attacked an Israeli aircraft, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) press service said on Monday.

The most powerful attack since May was called by the military as a response to the attempted missile attack on the Golan Heights on Sunday, it noted.

"The raid targeted military facilities of [Iranian unit] Quds Force in Syria, including weapons depots, mainly in the area of Damascus International Airport, Iranian intelligence center, Iranian training camp," the IDF said.

During the raid, dozens of Syrian anti-aircraft missiles were fired, despite an unequivocal warning not to allow open fire, it added.

"As a result, several Syrian air defense facilities were attacked," the Israeli army said.

No casualties on the Israeli side have been reported.
