UPDATE - Fire In France's Courchevel Ski Resort Kills 2, Injures Another 22 - Authorities

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th January, 2019) Two people died and another 22 suffered injuries as a result of a fire that broke out at a residential building in the French ski resort of Courchevel, located in the eastern Savoie department, on Saturday night, local authorities said on Sunday.

According to the LCI broadcaster, the fire broke out at around 4:30 a.m. local time (03:30 GMT) at the top floor of a building that housed seasonal workers.

"Two people died, 22 were injured, including four seriously injured ones. Sixty people have been evacuated," the Savoie authorities told the broadcaster.

A total of 70 firefighters were deployed to the scene, and the fire has already been extinguished, the broadcaster added.

The Russian Embassy in France commented on the incident confirming that there were no Russian nationals among the victims.

"According to the information of the Savoie prefecture, there are no Russians among the victims of fire in Courchevel. The investigation is underway and the causes of fire are being established," first secretary at the embassy Alexander Gostinsky told the Rossiya 24 broadcaster.

French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims via his Twitter feed.
