Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov confirmed Moscow's readiness to organize and host an inter-Palestinian meeting during a phone conversation with Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov confirmed Moscow's readiness to organize and host an inter-Palestinian meeting during a phone conversation with Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday."[Russia's] readiness to continue purposeful active contacts with all responsible Palestinian political forces, including the possibility of organizing an inclusive inter-Palestinian meeting in Moscow, was emphasized", the ministry said in a statement.
According to the ministry, during the phone talks, Haniyeh spoke about the development of the situation in the Gaza Strip, noting the measures being taken to improve the socioeconomic situation in the region as well as Cairo's efforts to this end.
On January 10, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal told Sputnik that the visit of the Hamas Politburo chairman to Moscow for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, planned for January 15, had been postponed.
Last month, Lavrov said that Moscow was considering the possibility of hosting an inter-Palestinian meeting in Moscow in 2019 that would be attended by both Hamas and rival Palestinian faction Fatah with the aim of discussing Palestinian reconciliation. The two groups already attended similar consultations in Moscow in early 2017.
