Pakistani woman who married Kerala man gets Indian citizenship

Maryam Youssuf, belonging to Pakistan, moved to India in 2008 to marry her love in Kerala.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 15th January, 2018) A Pakistani woman who had married a man in Kerala got Indian citizenship.

Maryam Youssuf, belonging to Pakistan, moved to India in 2008 to marry her love in Kerala.

She was handed over her citizenship certificate early this month.
Lahore native Maryam met Imdad Shamil from Palakkad through social media and the two soon fell in love.

To further their relationship, Imdad came to Lahore to meet Maryam and her parents. Touched by the couple's love for each other, Maryam's parents happily agreed for the wedding.

According to Indian law, a person should have resided in the country for at least 7 years in order to apply for Indian citizenship so Maryam applied for citizenship in 2017 after moving to India in 2008.
Passing through all these obstacles, Maryam and Imdad are now a happily married couple. They have two children and continue to reside in Palakkad.
