Talks Between Syrian Kurds, Damascus Suspended - Rojava Representative in Moscow

The negotiations between the Syrian Kurds and Damascus have been frozen after a bilateral meeting did not yield any results, an official representative of the Kurds in Moscow, Rshad Bienaf, told Sputnik

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th January, 2019) The negotiations between the Syrian Kurds and Damascus have been frozen after a bilateral meeting did not yield any results, an official representative of the Kurds in Moscow, Rshad Bienaf, told Sputnik.

"So far, all the talks have been suspended," the representative said, adding that the two sides had had a meeting with the Syrian authorities, but the talks yielded no results, as Damascus "was not ready to introduce changes to the constitution, to recognize Kurds, not ready to compromise."

According to Bienaf, Russia may play a positive role and mediate the talks. Moscow could get the Kurds to participate in the settlement process and redacting the Syrian constitution, the representative suggested.

Bienaf also stressed that Rojava was independent in all political decisions and relied only on the region's own resources.

"Therefore, various reports that the United States is allegedly against the dialogue between the Kurds and Damascus are not true. Northern Syria has its own government, which is ready to conduct such a dialogue, regardless of the decision of external forces," the representative said.
