French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner has announced he is at the scene of a fire in central Paris that broke out after a gas leak caused an explosion in a bakery on Saturday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th January, 2019) French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner has announced he is at the scene of a fire in central Paris that broke out after a gas leak caused an explosion in a bakery on Saturday.

"At Rue de Trevise alongside the prime minister [Edouard Philippe], the Paris prosecutor, police and the mayor of the capital ... My thoughts are with those injured," Castaner tweeted.

The interior minister said that more than 200 firefighters were struggling to put out the blaze and that the destruction was significant.

The blast smashed windows in nearby stores in the densely built up area. Photos from the scene showed the narrow street covered with debris. A dozen of people received injures, notably to the head, according to the BFMTV broadcaster. The nature of the injuries is not known.
