The authorities of Burkina Faso prolonged the state of emergency in several northern provinces over increased activities of Islamist groups in the region, local media reported on Saturday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th January, 2019) The authorities of Burkina Faso prolonged the state of emergency in several northern provinces over increased activities of Islamist groups in the region, local media reported on Saturday.

The state of emergency was declared by a decree of Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore on December 31.

According to the Faso media outlet, the country's National Assembly decided to prolong the state of emergency during a plenary session held on Friday. The law was unanimously supported by members of the parliament.

Burkina Faso is facing rising activities of two major Islamist groups: Ansar ul islam and Group to Support Islam and Muslims.
