Houthis' Drone Attack on Military Parade Constitutes Blow to UN Efforts - Yemeni Minister

A drone attack on a military parade at Al Anad military air base in the Yemeni southern region of Lahij carried out by Houthi rebels is a significant blow to the UN efforts aimed at a political settlement in the country, Yemeni Information Minister Moammar Eryani said on Thursday

CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th January, 2019) A drone attack on a military parade at Al Anad military air base in the Yemeni southern region of Lahij carried out by Houthi rebels is a significant blow to the UN efforts aimed at a political settlement in the country, Yemeni Information Minister Moammar Eryani said on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, a source in the local administration told Sputnik that at least six Yemeni servicemen were killed and 14 others were injured as a result of the Houthi drone attack on Al Anad base. Chief of Staff of Yemen Abdullah Nakhi, his deputy, Saleh Zindani, Lahij Governor Ahmad Abdullah Turki, as well as the head of the military intelligence of the country, Mohamed Tamah, were injured in the attack.

"The timing of this terrorist act is a strong blow to the efforts of UN Secretary-General [Antonio Guterres] and Special Envoy for Yemen [Martin Griffiths] aimed at resolving the Yemeni crisis, and confirms that the Houthi rebels do not believe in the language of peace, do not know how to do anything well except murder and terrorism, and understand only the language of arms," Eryani wrote on his Twitter.

The minister added that the Yemeni government would take a strong and decisive position in regard of the drone attack.

Yemen has been engulfed in an armed conflict between the government forces led by President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and the Houthi rebels. A Saudi-led coalition of mostly Arab countries has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at Hadi's request since March 2015.
