Russia's MS-21 Plane Project Faces No Serious Threats Amid US Sanctions - Officials

The Russian government is controlling the situation with the project to build MS-21 planes, and there are no significant threats to its implementation, despite US sanctions, the office of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov told reporters on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th January, 2019) The Russian government is controlling the situation with the project to build MS-21 planes, and there are no significant threats to its implementation, despite US sanctions, the office of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov told reporters on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Kommersant newspaper reported that the US sanctions blocked US and Japanese deliveries of composite materials to Russia needed to build MS-21 planes. According to the newspaper, Rostec and Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) are trying to organize domestic production of these materials, something that would require time and may lead to the delay in the launch of serial production of MS-21 planes.

"The Russian government is aware of everything happening with the MS-21 project. Currently there are no problems threatening the project," Borisov's office said.

Earlier on Thursday, the press service of state corporation Rostec called the composite delivery issue "far-fetched" and pointed out that the Russian aviation industry would not face a shortage of composites, even in the face of US sanctions.

The MS-21 is a twin-engine short-and mid-range airliner with a capacity of 150-212 passengers. The presentation of the aircraft took place in June 2016 in the Russian city of Irkutsk.
