Russian Lawmakers Rebut House Speaker Pelosi's Criticism of Putin-Trump Ties

Russian lawmakers lashed out on Saturday at US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi for calling any relations between the two nations' presidents "dangerous."

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th January, 2019) Russian lawmakers lashed out on Saturday at US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi for calling any relations between the two nations' presidents "dangerous."

Pelosi made the relevant comment earlier in the day.

"Pelosi's claim should be viewed only as an element of the presidential race which is already starting ... Apparently, the US 'loser league' of Democrats puts political revenge at home in the next couple of years before real national interests," senior lawmaker Konstantin Kosachev, the chair of the upper house's foreign affairs committee, told Sputnik.

Adalbi Shkhagoshev, deputy chair of the ruling United Russia's group in the lower house of parliament, said President Vladimir Putin acted within international legal norms, "so there can be no threat, at least from Putin." He noted that it was US domestic policy that posed threat to the United States.

Lawmaker Igor Morozov of the Russian Communist Party accused the Democratic speaker of having low political standards, but added that such behavior had been normalized long ago by Congressional hawks.

"Democrats and other politicians in the United States have been spreading Russophobic sentiment in the American society with their rhetoric. This line of behavior is pursued by Congress and emphasized by media. Any progress made by Russia or China causes distress," Morozov said to Sputnik.

The lawmaker suggested that the Democrats were mounting pressure on the White House to torpedo US President Donald Trump's attempts to get along with Russia.
