Militants from the Taliban movement have kidnapped 12 civilians in the western Afghan province of Farah and already killed two of them, local media reported on Saturday, citing a Farah official.

Shah Mahmoud Naeemi, a provincial council member, told the Ariana news broadcaster that the incident occurred in the morning when the victims were traveling to the center of the provincial capital. One of the killed hostages was an employee of the provincial governor, and the other one worked as a sales agent.

Taliban has not provided any comment on the incident yet.

Afghanistan has long been suffering from political and social instability due to simmering insurgency, including that of the Taliban movement and the Islamic State terrorist group (outlawed in Russia).
