Russian Space Forces Detected Over 60 Ballistic Missile Launches in 2018 -Defense Ministry

The Russian Space Forces have detected over 60 launches of foreign and Russian ballistic missiles in 2018, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th January, 2019) The Russian Space Forces have detected over 60 launches of foreign and Russian ballistic missiles in 2018, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

"The means of the Russian system of missile attack warning and the special means of space control and missile defense have identified over 60 launches of foreign and domestic ballistic missiles and spacecraft in 2018," the statement read.

The new-generation Russia-made sensors Voronezh are the most important component of the land-based radar facilities of the missile attack warning system, the ministry specified.

As part of the program to improve the system's space tier, the operation center of the early-warning radar system's space facilities has been modernized.

Specialists from the Space Forces are currently carrying out test flights of the spacecraft of the Unified Space System's orbital group. The introduction of the Unified Space System is expected to significantly speed-up the ballistic missile launches detection, enable quicker briefing of the country's military and political leadership on missile threats, and also enhance credibility of information on these threats.
