UPDATE - Russian Lower House Speaker Invites Spanish Counterpart To Visit Russia In 2019

BRASILIA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd January, 2019) Russian lower house Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin on Tuesday invited his Spanish counterpart Ana Pastor Julian to visit Russia in 2019 and address the State Duma.

The meeting between the lower chamber speakers was held earlier in the day on the sidelines of Volodin's visit to Brazil, where he leads the Russian delegation for the inauguration of Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro.

"We are waiting for you in Russia, we hope that you will find an opportunity to visit us in the first half of 2019 ... We would like to invite you to speak in the State Duma," Volodin said at the meeting with his counterpart from Spain.

During the talks, the Russian lower chamber speaker has slammed the EU policy of sanctions as "unacceptable method of pressure," but underlined that the turnover between Russia and Spain has started to grow over the last two years despite the restrictive measures.

Moreover, Volodin held a meeting with Brazil's lower house Speaker Rodrigo Maia and also invited him to pay visit to Russia soon.

"We support your offer on the development of educational projects ... There are a lot of universities in Russia, only in Moscow there are more than a hundred, " Volodin said, responding to Maia's proposal to discuss cooperation on the student exchange.

Bolsonaro, who represents the right-wing Social Liberal Party, was sworn in as Brazil's president at a ceremony earlier on Tuesday.
