Ukraine is awaiting the visit of the new head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak, in two weeks time, during which he will visit the Donbas region, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said Wednesday.

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st January, 2019) Ukraine is awaiting the visit of the new head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak, in two weeks time, during which he will visit the Donbas region, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said Wednesday.

"Congratulations to [Slovakia] and my good friend @MiroslavLajcak for assuming 2019 OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office! Wishing @Slovakia_OSCE to be a guardian of OSCE values&principles, blatantly violated by [Russia]. Looking forward welcoming Miroslav in [Ukraine] in two weeks, will go to Donbas together," Klimkin wrote on Twitter.

Throughout 2019, Slovakia will chair the OSCE, replacing Italy, and in a year will pass the baton to Albania.

The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against Luhansk and Donetsk people's republics (LPR and DPR), which had refused to recognize the new government in Kiev that came to power after what they considered to be a coup.

In February 2015, the warring parties signed the Minsk peace accords to end the fighting in the region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
