CJP says his brother also named in ECL

The CJP expressed his anger at the federal government for putting names of 172 people involved in fake bank accounts in the Exit Control List (ECL).

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 31st December, 2018) A hearing on fake bank accounts case is being held in the Supreme Court on Monday.

A two member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar is hearing the case.

Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head Ehsan Saqib among other members are present in the Supreme Court while Sindh Advocate General Salman Abu Talib, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Raja Parvez Ashraf, Latif Khosa, Farooq H Naik, Farhatullah Babar and others are also present in the court.

The CJP expressed his anger at the Federal government for putting Names of 172 people involved in fake bank accounts in the Exit Control List (ECL).

During the hearing, the CJP remarked why the names of these people have been put in the ECL. What explanation does the federal government have?

The CJP said that the step curtails the freedom of the individuals, adding that Murad Ali Shah is the chief minister of Sindh, at least he should have been respected.

If it was a recommendation of the JIT, the government should have at least waited for the court orders.

The JIT counsel said that the cabinet had approved putting the 172 names on ECL.

The CJP said that even his brother’s name has been placed on the ECL.

The court ordered Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi to submit a reply.

The court also ordered the federal cabinet to review the names put on ECL. The CJP ordered complete details of the names placed on the ECL.

Lawyer Shahid Hamid said that the cabinet approved placing the names on ECL without any consideration.

On the request of the FIA and JIT, the names of corrupt people, who were found involved in money laundering or other such activity, were included in the ECL on December 27.
