UN Confirms Humanitarian Convoy To Move Along Opened Corridor From Al Hudaydah To Sanaa

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th December, 2018) A humanitarian convoy will move from the Yemen's Al Hudaydah port to the capital Sanaa along the opened corridor that has been blocked due to the conflict on December 29, the UN Office of the Spokesperson confirmed in a statement.

"A humanitarian convoy is expected to move from the Al Hudaydah port along the Hudaydah-Sana'a Road on 29 December," the statement said on Friday.

Earlier in the day, the parties to the conflict in Yemen agreed to open a previously-blocked road that links Sanaa with Al Hudaydah and the city of Taizz. The parties also agreed to make other closed routes accessible for humanitarian aid deliveries.

The UN Security Council adopted last Friday a resolution calling for a 30-day deployment of a United Nations team to Yemen to help monitor the ceasefire in Al Hudaydah during the UN-led consultations in Sweden.

In a process overseen by an UN-chaired committee, troops from both sides of the conflict are supposed to withdraw from the area, exchange war prisoners and establish humanitarian corridors in Al-Hudaydah.

Yemen has been engulfed in war between the country's internationally backed government, supported by the Saudi-led coalition who operates in the country, and the Houthi rebels.
