Trump Administration Files Appeal on Judge's Order Blocking Asylum Restrictions - Filing

The Trump administration is appealing a federal judge's order to block new restrictions on the asylum process in the US immigration system, court document revealed on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th December, 2018) The Trump administration is appealing a Federal judge's order to block new restrictions on the asylum process in the US immigration system, court document revealed on Wednesday.

"Defendants hereby appeal from the Court's Order entered December 19, 2018 (ECF No.99) in the above-captioned case to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit," the court document said.

On Friday, the US Supreme Court said in an order that the Trump administration will not be allowed to enforce its new policy of denying asylum to migrants who cross the US-Mexico border illegally while their case moves through the courts.

Judges on the Ninth Circuit Court had upheld an order issued by US federal District Judge Jon Tigar's on December 19, which extended an initial block on the administration's new restrictions.

On November 20, a US district judge in San Francisco blocked Trump's proclamation that bars migrants from applying for asylum if they enter the United States without authorization. The presidential order was challenged by several advocacy groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union.

President Donald Trump had signed on November 9 a proclamation that denied asylum to migrants who enter the United States illegally. Only migrants who enter the United Sates at a port of entry can apply for asylum, the proclamation said.

The rule was supposed to remain in place for three months or until an agreement is reached allowing the United States to remove aliens to Mexico.
