Ukraine, Kazakhstan Presidents Discuss Kerch Strait Clash in Phone Call

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called his Kazakhstan counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, on Wednesday to discuss last month's standoff in the Kerch Strait, the Kazakhstani leader's press office said.

ALMATY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th December, 2018) Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called his Kazakhstan counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, on Wednesday to discuss last month's standoff in the Kerch Strait, the Kazakhstani leader's press office said.

Russia's coast guards captured three Ukrainian naval ships on November 25 in its waters east of Crimea after the vessels crossed over illegally and maneuvered dangerously.

"Nursultan Nazarbayev urged Ukraine and Russia to resolve this issue through talks as soon as possible," the statement reads.

The leaders also took stock of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. Nazarbayev asked the warning parties to search for compromise and offered assistance in the peace process to end the almost-five-year-long fight.
