Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 23rd December, 2018) UN Women Pakistan has initiated the trend #Stopjahezkhori against the concept of dowry.
With wedding season in full swing in Pakistan, #Stopjahezkhori was initiated as a trend by UN Woman to promote gender equality and women empowerment in the country.
The trend calls for awareness among the people to denounce the practice of taking dowry from the bride’s parents.
Following the trend, Pakistani celebrities have joined hands against the culture of dowry in the country by posting pictures written ‘Jahez Khori Band Karo’ on their hands.

The concept of dowry, the money or goods that a woman brings to her husband in marriage, is still prevalent in Pakistan. At least 2,000 cases of dowry-related deaths are reported in Pakistan every year.
It is often conceived as demands, which a bride’s parents hand over to the groom and his family during the wedding. These could include things like household electronic items, vehicles and even property.
