Death Toll In Indonesian Tsunami Climbs To 62 - Disaster Management Agency

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd December, 2018) The death toll in a tsunami that hit western Indonesia on Saturday rose to 62, while 20 more people are reported missing, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a representative of the Indonesian National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB), said on Sunday.

Earlier on Sunday, media reported about 43 deaths and two missing people.

According to the BNPB representative, the evacuation is ongoing, with at least 584 people having been injured as a result of the disaster.

Hundreds of homes and public buildings have been destroyed as a result of the tsunami.

The western coast of Indonesia was hit by tsunami at 9:27 p.m. local time [14:27 GMT] on Saturday.
