Number Of People Injured In Barcelona Clashes Climbs To 30 - Ambulance

MADRID (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st December, 2018) Over 30 people were injured during clashes between the police and protesters in the Catalan capital of Barcelona on Friday, Catalonia's ambulance service said.

Earlier reports suggested that 15 people were wounded.

The ambulance service said on Twitter that 20 police officers of the Mossos d'Esquadra were among those injured.

Four people were taken to a hospital, the ambulance added.

People gathered in Catalonia to protest the session of the Spanish Council of Ministers in Barcelona.

Catalan pro-independence activists have repeatedly held rallies since the Spanish central authorities refused to recognize the results of the October 2017 independence referendum, and subsequently dissolved the regional parliament and introduced direct rule over Catalonia.

At the referendum, over 90 percent of those who participated in the vote supported Catalonia's secession from Spain.
