German Cabinet Passes Draft Laws to Hire More Non-EU Workers

The German cabinet has passed draft laws on Wednesday that will open up more jobs for foreign workers from third countries in a bid to fill labor gaps, according to a statement.

BERLIN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th December, 2018) The German cabinet has passed draft laws on Wednesday that will open up more jobs for foreign workers from third countries in a bid to fill labor gaps, according to a statement.

"We don't want social immigrants, we need workers. This is our goal. In this way, we can also scale back illegal immigration," Interior Minister Horst Seehofer was quoted as saying at a press briefing.

The measure aims to lower employment barriers for skilled workers to fill 1.2 million vacancies, the press release reads. Under previous rules, only highly qualified experts could come to Germany searching for work.

The new laws would allow foreigners with lower qualifications to look for jobs in the country. Immigrants whose asylum applications were denied may also be permitted to stay and work if they are well-integrated.
