Russia and China held the third round of bilateral consultations on anti-terror issues and agreed to boost the cooperation, including in the formats of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) Russia and China held the third round of bilateral consultations on anti-terror issues and agreed to boost the cooperation, including in the formats of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The consultations were held earlier in the day in the Chinese capital of Beijing. The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov, while Assistant Foreign Minister Zhang Hanhui headed the Chinese delegation.

"[The parties] agreed to persistently expand the bilateral cooperation to fight terrorism and extremism, including at the key international platforms, including the United Nations, SCO, BRICS and FATF [Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering]," the statement said.

The parties to the negotiations also informed each other about their countries' efforts aimed at preventing and fighting terrorism at the national level as well as countering cross-border movement of terrorists.

"The parties pointed out the common understanding of importance of creating a broad anti-terror front to fight the Islamic State, al-Qaeda, Turkistan Islamic Party [all three groups are outlawed in Russia] and other terror organizations with the central coordinating role performed by the United Nations, based on the norms and principles of the international law, without double standards, in the spirit of partnership," the statement added.

Both Russia and China are bordering the Central Asian region, which has been facing the high terror threat for decades over the unstable situation in Afghanistan.
