MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) The Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday that the allegations that then Director of the Russian military intelligence service GRU Igor Sergun was in Lebanon when he died in January 2016 did not reflect the reality.
Media reported earlier in the day that former US National Security Adviser Michael Flynn had told the FBI during a questioning in January last year that Sergun had died in Lebanon. Flynn's testimony was part of the memo Special Counsel Robert Mueller submitted to the US Court for the District of Columbia earlier in the month.
"Rumors spread by the US Department of Justice that Hero of Russia Lt. General Igor Dmitrievich Sergun, who died on January 3, 2016, was in Lebanon [at the time of his death] are conspiracy nonsense. In January 2016, Igor [Sergun] was in Russia," the ministry said in a statement.
