Latvian Pensioner Suspected Of Spying For Russia Remanded In Prison By Riga Court - Lawyer

RIGA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) A Riga court has upheld the previous ruling to remand Latvian pensioner Oleg Burak, who has been suspected of espionage for Russia, in custody, the man's lawyer Imma Yansone said.

Burak was detained by the Latvian Security Police back in October. The court ordered his arrest. The lawyer challenged the ruling.

"The court of Vidzeme District of Riga has decided to uphold the decision on the measure of restraint against Latvian pensioner Oleg Burak in the form of detention," the lawyer told reporters on Monday.

The Latvian police have not disclosed details of the case. According to Latvia's Mixnews media outlet, the suspect is Oleg Burak, born in 1956, a former employee of the Latvian Interior Ministry.
