Russia Disappointed By EU Disregarding Creation Of Kosovo Army - Envoy To UN

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) Russia regrets that the European Union has failed to adequately respond to Kosovo's decision to transform the Kosovo Security Force into a national army, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia told the Security Council.

"We've been very disappointed by the position of the European Union. On the one hand, it claims to play the role of an objective mediator," Nebenzia told the Security Council on Monday. "On the other hand, it disregards the illegal creation of the Kosovo army. The reaction of the EU to the latest decision of Pristine can only be called toothless."

On December 13, the parliament of the self-proclaimed republic voted in favor of expanding the Kosovo Security Force into a 5,000-strong army.

The UN Security Council held Monday's meeting on the issue at Serbia's request.

On December 15, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over Kosovo's decision to form an army, urging all parties concerned to exercise restraint.
