An upcoming meeting of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija after Pristina's decision to create a national army will be open despite the opposition from the West, Russian Ambassador in Belgrade Alexander Chepurin said on Monday.
BELGRADE (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th December, 2018) An upcoming meeting of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija after Pristina's decision to create a national army will be open despite the opposition from the West, Russian Ambassador in Belgrade Alexander Chepurin said on Monday.On December 13, the parliament of the self-proclaimed republic voted in favor of expanding the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) into a 5,000-strong army. The UN Security Council will hold a meeting on the issue later on Monday at Serbia's request.
"Following the requests from Serbia and Russia, Cote d'Ivoire, which chairs the UN Security Council, has made a courageous decision to convene a meeting on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, which will start today at 9:00 p.m. Belgrade time [20:00 GMT] ... It is important that the meeting will be open despite the opposition from the West," Chepurin said on Twitter.
On December 15, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over Kosovo's decision to form an army, urging all parties concerned to exercise restraint.
