US Senate Resolution To Hold Saudi Crown Prince To Account For Khashoggi Killing - Senator

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th December, 2018) US Senator Bob Corker has introduced a resolution calling on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to hold to account those responsible for the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee said in a press release on Thursday.

"The resolution condemns Khashoggi's killing and insists on accountability for those involved in his death," the release said.

The resolution, titled "Supporting a Diplomatic Solution in Yemen and Condemning the Murder of Jamal Khashoggi," Names Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman as the person responsible for the journalist's murder.

"The Senate ... calls for the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ensure appropriate accountability for all those responsible for Jamal Khashoggi's murder," the resolution states.

Khashoggi went missing after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2. After weeks of denials, the Saudi chief prosecutor admitted that the US-based columnist had been killed and dismembered inside the diplomatic mission.

Corker's Senate resolution also calls on Saudi Arabia to release women's rights activists who were jailed as political prisoners earlier in 2018, according to the resolution. US calls on parties to the military conflict in Yemen to cease fire and seek political solution.

The bill is being co-sponsored by nine other Republican senators, including Majority leader Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, Joni Ernst and Pat Toomey.
