Turkey Set to Switch to National Currencies in Trade With Russia Within 2 Years - Erdogan

Turkey intends to start using national currencies in bilateral trade with Russia, China and Mexico over the course of two years, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday.

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th December, 2018) Turkey intends to start using national currencies in bilateral trade with Russia, China and Mexico over the course of two years, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday.

"Turkey plans to start using national currencies in trade with 12 countries. Accordingly, we have generated 2-year plans for trade with China, Mexico and Russia," Erdogan said.

The Turkish president said in late November that Turkey would be using national currencies to pay for the delivery of the Russian S-400 air defense systems.

On November 28, Erdogan stressed the need to use national currencies in foreign trade following a trade dispute with the United States and the depreciation of Turkey's lira in August.
