UN Security Council Must Hold US to Account for Breaching JCPOA Resolution - Iran's Envoy

The United Nations Security Council should hold the United States responsible for its violations of the resolution that calls on all states to support the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran's deputy ambassador to the UN Eshaq Al-e-Habib said on Wednesday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) The United Nations Security Council should hold the United States responsible for its violations of the resolution that calls on all states to support the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran's deputy ambassador to the UN Eshaq Al-e-Habib said on Wednesday.

"The Council should consider the United States illegal act as the flagrant violation of the resolution and hold it accountable for such violations," Al-e-Habib said during a meeting of the Security Council.

The envoy stressed that inaction would only embolden the United States to continue its policies and allow Washington to keep fabricating stories about Tehran's malign activities. He also said President Donald Trump is addicted to bullying other nations and called on the international community to condemn the US leader's actions.

But Al-e-Habib said Iran has been pushing back against unfair US actions for 40 years and will manage to do so again this time.

Relations between Washington and Tehran have been hostile for decades, with the United States designating Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism and calling for the isolation of the Islamic Republic. The relations deteriorated even further after the United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, in May and reimposed sanctions on Tehran.

The sanctions are aimed at exercising maximum pressure on Iran to force it to negotiate a new nuclear deal that curbs the country's missile development and activities in the middle East. As part of its campaign, the United States wants all countries to eventually reduce their Iranian oil imports to zero to damage the country's economy.
