Russia Does Not Rule Out Building NPP in Azerbaijan on Customer's Funds - Source

The Russian side does not rule out building a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Azerbaijan using customer's funds, a source with a knowledge of the negotiation process told reporters on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) The Russian side does not rule out building a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Azerbaijan using customer's funds, a source with a knowledge of the negotiation process told reporters on Wednesday.

"I think they [Azerbaijan] will build it using their [funds]," the source told reporters, when asked on the NPP funding scheme.

"They have no operating NPPs, while the nuclear sphere exists in the country. We have sent suggestions, they're deliberating. We have suggested two possible options. The first option is starting right now, quickly. Back in Soviet times, a platform for an NPP has even been chosen there. We can go to the platform right now. While we can also do it not in a hurry: first create an investigative nuclear reactor, then develop certain energy skills, then prepare the staff, and work like this during five or six years," the source said.

According to the source, Russia is currently waiting for Azerbaijani response.
