Russia's Gazprombank May Take Part in Construction of Oil Refinery in Sudan - Minister

Russia's Gazprombank may invest in the construction of an oil refinery in Sudan, Russian Natural Resources and Environment Minister Dmitry Kobylkin said on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) Russia's Gazprombank may invest in the construction of an oil refinery in Sudan, Russian Natural Resources and Environment Minister Dmitry Kobylkin said on Wednesday.

"There is a preliminary arrangement with Gazprombank on a possible consideration of this issue. We are talking about investments, and we note that the Sudanese side has such a need," Kobylkin said after a meeting of the Russian-Sudanese intergovernmental commission.

The details of the bank's participation in the project are to be discussed during the negotiations, the minister noted.

Former Sudanese Natural Resources Minister Muhammad Ahmad Ali said in July that the two countries were considering the possibility of building a large oil refinery in the Red Sea region.

Sudanese Ambassador to Russia Nadir Babiker told Sputnik last week that Russian state exploration company Rosgeologia was mulling the construction of an oil refinery in Port Sudan, turning it into a major hub connecting consumers in landlocked African countries with oil producers, including the Gulf states.
