Rouhani Says Iran's Oil Exports Improved Despite US November Sanctions

Exports of Iranian oil have improved despite the fact that the United States had imposed sanctions targeting Iran's oil industry in early November, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) Exports of Iranian oil have improved despite the fact that the United States had imposed sanctions targeting Iran's oil industry in early November, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday.

On November 5, Washington imposed sanctions targeting core sectors of Iran's economy, including oil exports, shipping and banks.

"The aim of the Americans was to stop our [oil] exports, and I would like to openly tell our people that since November 4 our exports have significantly improved," Rouhani said in a statement published on his official website.

US President Donald Trump announced in May that the United States would withdraw from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), known as the Iran nuclear deal, and re-impose its sanctions against Tehran that had been lifted under the agreement. The first package of the US restrictions came into force in August.

Other parties to the nuclear deal - China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom and the European Union - have, however, expressed their commitment to the accord and are working on creating tools to bypass the US restrictions.
