MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th December, 2018) Ukraine has to pay $12 billion in foreign debt over the next two years, the governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Yakiv Smolii, said Sunday.

"In 2019-2020, Ukraine must pay about $12 billion on foreign debt, including interest payments," Smolii told the VoxUkraine publication.

In late August, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said that Kiev should repay $33 billion of public debt in the next five years. According to Groysman, debt servicing costs Ukraine 5 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) annually. Also in August, the Ukrainian government approved the strategy of the national debt management that aims to lower the debt-to-GDP ratio to 49 percent by the end of 2020.
