Houthis Await Gov't Response on Proposal to Check Sanaa-Bound Planes in Amman - Delegate

The Houthi delegation to the UN-mediated peace talks in Sweden awaits a response from the Yemeni government regarding its proposal to conduct security checks of planes bound for the Sanaa airport in Amman, Abdul Malik Ajri, a member of the Houthis' political bureau, told reporters on Saturday.

STOCKHOLM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th December, 2018) The Houthi delegation to the UN-mediated peace talks in Sweden awaits a response from the Yemeni government regarding its proposal to conduct security checks of planes bound for the Sanaa airport in Amman, Abdul Malik Ajri, a member of the Houthis' political bureau, told reporters on Saturday.

The Sanaa airport has been out of operation for two years due to the ongoing conflict. On Friday, Abdulaziz Jabari, an adviser to the Yemeni president and a member of the government delegation to the peace talks in Sweden, told Sputnik that the government was ready to reopen the airport if the Houthis withdrew from it and the authorities could inspect planes.

"We have given four options for the resolution of the issue regarding Sanaa airport. For example, before the plane lands in Sanaa, we are not against it being checked in the capital of Jordan, Amman. The other side has not yet responded to this," Ajri said.

Yemen has been gripped by a civil war between President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi's government and the Shiite Houthi movement since 2015. The government is backed by the Saudi-led coalition that has been carrying out airstrikes that target areas controlled by the Houthis since March 2015.
