Canada's Trudeau Says Was Aware Of Authorities' Plans To Arrest Huawei Executive

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th December, 2018) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he had been notified by the Canadian authorities about their plans to arrest Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou but had not been involved in making this decision.

"The appropriate authorities took the decisions in this case without any political involvement or interference ... We were advised by them with a few days' notice that this was in the works but of course, there was no engagement or involvement in the political level in this decision," Trudeau told reporters as aired by the Global news outlet.

Meng was arrested in Vancouver last Saturday at the US request on suspicion of violating US sanctions against Iran.

The Chinese embassy in Canada has expressed its protest over the arrest of Meng, calling it a violation of human rights.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on Ottawa to immediately release Meng.

Huawei, in its turn, said it was unaware of any wrongdoing on the part of its chief financial officer.
