MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th December, 2018) Members of the council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) the executive body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) signed at a Wednesday meeting an agreement on the use of trademarks in the EAEU, which may enter into force after 2020, the EEC's statement read.

"The EAEU agreement on trademarks introduces a simple, fast and cheap registration procedure. It will begin to operate after 2020, when the necessary instructions and rules for the implementation of the general process and technological documents will be adopted," a member of the EEC board on the economics and financial policy said, as quoted in the statement.

The EEC noted that rights holders would be able to register trademarks once in any of the intellectual property offices of the EAEU states instead of registering in each of the five countries separately.

The EAEU, comprising Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, is an international organization that encourages regional economic integration through the free movement of goods, services, and people within the union.
