Asad Umar terms reports of his resignation ‘baseless’

The finance minister termed it propaganda against government.

Lahore (Point News – 5th December, 2018) Finance Minister Asad Umar has termed the news reports regarding him being removed from the position as baseless.

The finance minister said that this is propaganda against government.

He said that the prime minister has directed him to continue his work. Terming the news reports as baseless, he said that Prime Minister Imran Khan said that these reports are a propaganda against him.

Expressing his incognisance over the reports, he said that he is currently chairing a meeting of Finance Ministry, adding that he met Shamshad Akhtar as well yesterday.

He said that there was no mention of any changes in the Finance Ministry in the meeting with Shamshad Akhtar.

There were reports that Finance Minister Asad Umar is likely to be removed from his position in view of the trembling economic situation of the country.

Media reports said that Asad Umar is expected to be removed from his office over his poor performance as finance minister while the government has started considering new Names for the position.

These include Shamshad Akhtar besides two other people. Shamshad Akhtar has earlier served as the governor of State Bank and the caretaker finance minister.

In his interview to senior journalists and anchor-persons on Monday, the prime minister had hinted that there will be some changes in his cabinet and the ministers giving poor performance can be removed.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Prime Minister House had clarified that Finance Minister Asad Umar has not stepped down from his post.

Following reports altercation between Asad Umar and Advisor to the prime minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, there were rumours that the finance minister has resigned.

However, in a statement released by the Ministry of Finance, it was clarified that the finance minister has not stepped down.

The ministry also rubbished reports of an altercation between Asad Umar and Abdul Razak Dawood and senior party leader Jehangir Tareen.

The ministry said, “Some elements are spreading disinformation to achieve their objectives. There is no truth in them.”

“As far as differences are considered, our party holds a discussion on every matter and every minister and advisor shares their point of view after which a final discussion is taken,” the ministry added.

The ministry further said, “The finance minister has neither resigned nor plans to.”

Moreover, Tareen also clarified that he did not have any differences with Umar on any matter.
