Abkhazian Parliament Plans to Ratify Cooperation Treaty With Syria on Thursday - Speaker

The Abkhazian Parliament expects to ratify the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty with Syria on Thursday, Speaker of Parliament Valery Kvarchia told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd December, 2018) The Abkhazian Parliament expects to ratify the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty with Syria on Thursday, Speaker of Parliament Valery Kvarchia told Sputnik.

On September 4, Syrian President Bashar Assad and Abkhazian leader Raul Khadzhimba signed a Friendship and Cooperation Treaty in Damascus.

"The National Assembly will consider a draft law on ratification of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic on December 6 ... The treaty is at the stage of ratification. It will be ratified - all lawmakers attach great importance to this document," Kvarchia said.

The agreement on bilateral cooperation will also be considered at the session on Thursday, according to the speaker.

"The very fact of establishing relations with such an ancient country is very important for us. Syria recognized Abkhazia, so we attach great importance to the dialogue with SAR. We have common pain points. We have mutual sympathy. We have a good relationship," Kvarchia noted.

Syria officially recognized the breakaway republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in May, which seceded from Georgia in the 1990s but are still considered by Tbilisi as part of the country's territory.
