OSCE Secretary General Says Not Expecting Normandy Four Highest-Level Meeting Soon

Thomas Greminger, the secretary general of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), told Sputnik he was not expecting a highest-level Normandy format meeting on Ukraine to take place in near future.

VIENNA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th November, 2018) Thomas Greminger, the secretary general of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), told Sputnik he was not expecting a highest-level Normandy format meeting on Ukraine to take place in near future.

The OSCE secretary general said that the Normandy Four Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine were trying to "re-engage" and that it was very important.

"I don't think that it's very likely that we will soon have a Normandy four meeting on the highest level. I think for this there would be a need to have a clear sense of what such a meeting would produce in terms of concrete results," Greminger said.

In 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against two self-proclaimed republics in the southeast of the country that refused to recognize the new government that had come to power in Kiev.

The settlement of the crisis in Ukraine is being discussed in various formats, including a Normandy format as well as during the meetings of the contact group in Minsk. Despite the ceasefire agreements that have been reached, the hostile activities in the region have not stopped.
