Additional Steps in Ukraine's Banking Sector May Be Taken Over Martial Law - National Bank

The Ukrainian National Bank said on Thursday in a press release that it might adopt additional measures ensuring the work of the country's banking system in connection to the imposition of martial law on the country's territories.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th November, 2018) The Ukrainian National Bank said on Thursday in a press release that it might adopt additional measures ensuring the work of the country's banking system in connection to the imposition of martial law on the country's territories.

On Thursday, a decree declaring martial law in select regions of Ukraine that lie on the Russian border as well as the coasts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov came into force for 30 days. The step was taken by the Ukrainian authorities in response to the detention of three Ukrainians vessels that illegally entered the Russian territorial waters in the Kerch Strait.

"The National Bank of Ukraine will take, if necessary, additional decisions regarding the procedure, the scope and the date for the introduction of additional activities ensuring the work of the Ukrainian banking system in this particular period," the bank's press service said on Thursday.

The ministry specified that during the period of martial law the country's banking system would be working as usual.
